After taking a break from the trilogy to bury my cranium into the joys of Vertigo & Image, I've picked Haldeman's Peace and War omnibus back up to envelop myself in the third book, Forever Peace. After reading the EPIC Forever War and lapping it up at every page, Forever Free felt somewhat of a detached and  unfulfilling sequel. Its pretty damn clear I'm not the only one to think so. Thankfully however,  the final novel in the series is  so far proving to be just as engrossing as the first.

Still, I  cant drag myself away from DMZ. Volume 3 "Public Works" really upped the ante, and the main character Matt finally assumes the heroic role whilst going undercover to unearth the truth about the Trustwell Corp, rather than the "wiley reporter stuck in a warzone" he was from the first two.  Must get Vol.4,.. soon.

I also picked up the second part of Walking Dead, and right from the off the story's delivery is as slick as ever. The sheer number of references to classic zombie flicks is too many to count, but its pace and intesity, mixed with a little dark humor leaves you totally immersed and left wanting more.  My only slight disapointment is that with the departure of Moore as illustrator, there were no more full page visually captivating scenes. Charlie Adlard has done a great job in filling his shoes, but at face value there just seems to be something missing in the fine detail department.

Either way, bring on the next!
